WONDERFUL SAMPLER BY ANN LEADBETTER

A charming small needlework sampler by Ann Leadbetter. There are alphabets, numbers, flowers, a heart and seven little houses, one with smoke coming out of the chimney. There is some family provenance written on the back indicating a Weston, Massachusetts origin. The condition is excellent. New frame. Additional photos are attached by the link to the right.

RARE EARLY FIRE SCREEN SAMPLER

This is a beautiful rare form mahogany fire screen with an early sampler dated 1822 made by Lucy Spiers. The boot jack shaped base to the legs are on tiny ball feet. The sampler is in very good condition with great motifs. There is some discoloration to the linen but the wonderful earth tone colored threads are all intact. There is a separation in the linen between the birds. The reverse side of the fire screen has a chintz or brocade fabric backing. Additional photos are attached by the link to the right.

WONDERFUL SAMPLER BY ELIZABETH READ DATED 1829

A wonderful school girl sampler made by Elizabeth Read in the year 1829. It has silk threads on a linen background in nice earth tone colors which are still strong. There is an alphabet, numbers, verse, a little house with a man and a woman flanked by two trees. The center top edge has a stitched repair as well as the center bottom edge. There is a small stain under the letter "E" and another very small one above Elizabeth. The top left corner area has a tiny hole that looks white in the linen background. Any other white spots in the photos are from the camera flash. The sampler is in a fantastic period birdseye maple frame. There is one repaired part to the veneer. Conservation mounted. BEAUTIFUL SCHOOL GIRL SAMPLER BY ELIZABETH GIBBONS DATED 1812

A beautiful school girl sampler made by Elizabeth Gibbons. Wrought in the 12th year of her age and dated 1812. The background is linen and stitched with silk and metallic threads. Decorated with birds, pine trees, flowers and strawberries. There are six verses to a poem. There is a small area of damage that measures 1/2" x 3/8", situated 2 1/2" from the top. There are a few tiny spots of wear that are barely noticeable. The sampler is in a period gesso frame that has some edge damage but does not detract. Great piece! BEAUTIFUL PENNSYLVANIA DOUBLE SIDED QUILT

A rare and beautiful pieced, hand stitched Pennsylvania double sided quilt. One side is a zig-zag pattern and the other side has stars of Bethlehem. Except for some fading in areas and two very minor faded spots of discoloration, the condition of the fabrics and borders are excellent. Additional photos are attached by the link to the right.

GREAT PATRIOTIC CRAZY QUILT WITH AMERICAN FLAG

A great patriotic crazy quilt with an American flag in the center. There are also a variety of flags of other nations displayed, as well as butterflies and eagles. There is a potpourri of textiles including velvet, wool, cotton, flannel, etc. One piece shows some tears and there is a brown spot on the backside. The colors are vibrant and dramatic. WONDERFUL EARLY HOOKED RUG OF A CAT AND MOUSE

A wonderful early hooked rug of a cat and mouse. Backed on burlap. The colors are rich earth tones featuring grays, burgundy, mauve, burnt orange, browns, mustard yellow and black etc. In superb condition. Additional photos are attached by the link to the right.

RARE LANDSCAPE THEOREM ON VELVET

A beautiful landscape theorem painting on velvet in a period gilt frame. The subject is castle remnants overlooking a boat on a bay with two fishermen on the shore. It is a large size measuring 24 5/8" wide by 20 5/8" tall, including the frame.  The visible theorem itself measures 22 1/2" wide by 18 5/8" tall. The nails attaching the stretchers to the frame are replaced. There are several damaged spots on the velvet, the largest of which is 1" x 3/4" and is located above the largest structure. Another spot above the top left foliage measures 1/4" x 1/4". There are two narrow 1/2" wide spots to the right of the sitting fisherman. Additional photos are attached by the link to the right.

UNUSUAL INITIALED PAINTED FLORAL THEOREM ON LINEN

A beautiful painted floral theorem on linen with the initials H T. There are no holes but there is darkened foxing. It is in a period frame with original dark green paint. There are some worn paint areas to the frame. From the collection of Hillary Underwood of Vermont. The frame measurements are 12" wide by 10 1/8" height. The visible part of the theorem is 10" wide by 8 1/8" height. Additional photos are attached by the link to the right.

GREAT SMALL FLORAL THEOREM ON VELVET BY CHARLOTTE CRANE ROBERTS

A wonderful floral theorem on velvet in a period frame with very old, if not original varnish. There are two 1/8" abrasions and one that is pinhead size. All in all, the theorem is in very good condition for its age. On the reverse side is an inscription from a descendant that reads, "This Painting On Velvet" was done by- Charlotte Crane Roberts- About the year 1825. The frame measurements are 12 1/8" wide by 9 5/8" height. The visible part of the theorem measures 9 1/8" wide by 6 5/8" height. Additional photos are attached by the link to the right.
